a day out . family photographer. | long island new york storytelling lifestyle family photographer | grace photography

We spent months planning and discussing this session.

I received the most fantastic email from Michele regarding my work and how she wanted to book a mentor session and a family session for the Summer.

She has been so supportive of my work, and is also an awesome human. I could not wait to photograph her beautiful family and that adorable daughter of hers, Ana.

We finally pinned down a location.

Sag Harbor. How fantastic?

A Sag Harbor photography session it was! She has been there before and loves it there.

Music to my ears. Personal drive being added to a session.

Michele made it very clear she wanted it to be a true capturing of her family as they truly are. By the end of the session she said, “Are you sure you got enough? I mean, it wasn’t stressful so I want to make sure you got it.”

Don’t you worry. This is how a story should be documented. Every family. No stress, just you.

oh my.

what fun I had at this session. Anyone recognize them? That is Summer from Summer Lyn Photography, and her beautiful children.

she asked me to do a very very personal session. a day in the life session. documenting something that she cherishes day after day.

personal time with her girls in the morning.

the connections. the dynamics. the most profound experiences for any parent.

I am blown away time and time again at the relationships families have built amongst each other. I love entering a home and just feel immediately drawn to their energy.

the energy from Summer & her family was unreal.

for a moment, I was  a part of this family. just for a moment. it was perfect.

tell me, can you hear their laughter? Can you feel their so very different personalities radiating?

here is their story. xoxo

landon. so sweet & new. (newborn photography) | long island new york in home newborn photographer | grace photography

judging by the images, you would never think in a million years that this little guy gave me a run for my money.

he was so great, but just preferred to be awake.

fine with me. I document on a realistic level, and let them lead.

when Landon slept, we went with it. when he was awake, we went with that too. 😉

mom and dad had me cracking up the entire session too, they were so great to work with. I also had a mentoree by my side helping out, which was fantastic. now I’m spoiled and feel like I need an assistant. Thanks Sylvie! 😉

you will also notice that perhaps dad is a bit of a sports fan. I only incorporate props into my sessions if they are personal, and dad really wanted shots with the baseball and football. safe to say this kid will probably be watching the games with dad in no time!

also? his room. swoon.

like my last session, mom did all the designing herself. fantastic and vibrant and perfect. LOVED incorporating his room!

this session’s family pics also made me teary (basically I am like this with every mushy newborn session…always humbled to be a part of this dynamic) as they were so sweet with him.

seriously, don’t cry when you see the pics. can’t say I didn’t warn ya! 😉

he was super cool. perhaps it helped that he shares  a birthday with my youngest child? 😉

his room had such style, and the fact that everything right down to the bedding was MADE by mom just added to the element of “cool”.

this is their first baby, and something about parents (I may have spoken about this in another post) and their interaction with their first born just really chokes me up.

you are extra gentle, you jump at every coo, and so much attention to detail.

while I shot their family pics, I paused and gazed at their affection they had for each other and their new child.

just for a moment.

just enough to allow myself to feel their energy. just so I could guarantee I’d grab that energy, and freeze it in a photographic story. Please, pause at their family pics in this post, you will feel it too.

this session was long, and the light was tough, but it may have been one of my all time favorite newborn sessions.

thank you for that.

xo

jake. | long island new york in home newborn photographer | grace photography

this may have been my easiest newborn session yet.

this little face never woke up. maybe he took a peek or two at me here and there, but went right back to sleep.

he was very cozy and content. even with his doggies.

i do basic posing at my sessions, utilize the client’s bed for some traditional portraits, and try to stay very organic. i use the baby to inspire my posing. some babies love their belly, or love being swaddled, etc. so i take that and go with it.

clearly, jake went with it.

sessions are always new and personal. i absolutely loved his room and it’s theme, and the colorful chunky knit blankets that were hand made with lots of love,  just for him!

of course, best “props” of all, his sweet pups, and the lovin’ he got from his mom & dad. xo

enjoy!
